"I do not weep at the world I am too busy sharpening my oyster knife."

Zora Neale Hurston bubbled with talent and inspiration. Every word had meaning, every sentence a purpose. For a woman who struggled so much in life and was under valued time and time again, her usage of the modern language was like music for the soul. Often times, many a great people are left behind as time continues to turn and it is our duty to ensure that time does not forget them but instead, appreciates them. My purpose here was to leave a lasting mark in Hurstons name. To, with much hope, ensure that she is never forgotten and that no one passes her by without a second glance.

Someone once said, "You die twice. Once when you let go of your last breath and twice when someone says your name for the last time." Allow us to keep her name on our lips for all the times she was overlooked in her lifetime and for all the moments she struggled as a budding author, waiting to unfold her wings.

This project has given me insight on the struggles that many authors have to undertake in order to get recognition and some still never find that spotlight. It's a difficult process but it gives many writers a fighting spirit. Despite all the troubles and difficulties she encountered, Hurston was resilient that she not lose her voice. If I take nothing else from Hurston, I want to have her strength. To be resilient even when it feels you can sink no further.

I hope to one day find my voice they way she found hers. To be able to paint pictures with words and weave songs. To wrap my readers in a blanket of warmth and ease them into a tale. I aspire to be half as good as Hurston and perhaps, one day, a little bit more.
